There are many reasons why a Kloud-12 user would want or need to share access to their classroom camera. Two likely situations are 1) temporarily inviting a guest "into" the classroom via access to Live View, and 2) adding a longer-term, Secondary User to the camera, such as a co-teacher.
A few things worth noting:
- Access to Kloud-12 requires a user account, whether assigned to a camera or not.
- A Kloud-12 user can only share access to the camera that they are assigned to - a user cannot grant someone access to a camera other than their own.
- Access can only be shared with other Kloud-12 accounts in the same building - a user in another district or school cannot be granted access to your camera.
- In general, a Kloud-12 user can only get access to a camera when added by the camera owner - you cannot self-select to access a camera without permission from the Primary, or assigned, User. One exception to this rule is for Admin Accounts, typically reserved for building or district administration. Approval for Admin Accounts varies per district, and is based on district use policy for Kloud-12.
Inviting a Kloud-12 user "into" your classroom, as a guest for observation:
With Kloud-12, teachers who are assigned as camera owners can invite administrators or other users to observe their classrooms via camera Live View. Granting another account access to Live View allows that guest to gather real-time details of classroom activity without being a disruption.
Follow these steps to share temporary access to your Kloud-12 camera:
- In the camera options menu, click on the green button that says "Share Camera."
- Next, click "New Share" in the top right corner.
- Use the drop-down list to select the email address of the user you want to give access to your classroom camera. REMINDER: The drop-down list shows all other active Kloud-12 accounts in your building. Only users on this list will be allowed to join your classroom, as determined by your administration.
- Toggle the options based on what you want the user to be able to do while accessing your camera:
-
- Live View: This lets users see a live view of your classroom - this permission is necessary for guest observation and should be set to "on".
- Manage View: Allows users to control the camera's pan, tilt, and zoom functions - this permission is optional for guest observation, as a guest should not need to adjust your camera view.
- Use Kloud-12 LIVE: This would allow another user to launch Kloud-12 LIVE from your camera - this permission is not needed for guest observation and can remain "off." NOTE: Kloud-12 LIVE may or may not be enabled in your district. For more on this feature, see this article.
- Create Recordings: Gives users the ability to create one-time or recurring recordings - this permission is not needed for guest observation and can remain "off."
- Expiration: You can set an expiration date, which determines the end of the user's access to your classroom. This allows you to specify the duration of the observation period, ensuring that the user's access remains valid only for the designated time frame - this is especially helpful and recommended when setting up temporary guest access.
Adding another Kloud-12 account to your camera, as a Secondary User:
Kloud-12 offers camera owners the convenience of including additional camera users in their classrooms. These users can serve as co-teachers, parapros, or individuals directly involved with your classroom operations. Additional camera users generally have all of the same camera permissions as the Primary User, with the ability to adjust the camera view and schedule their own recordings. Any recording files on a camera are delivered to the account that creates or schedules the recording to take place. Shared users cannot access each other's recording files unless the files or folders are specifically shared by the owner. For more info, see Sharing Recordings - How to Share Files or Folders.
Follow these steps to add one or more additional users to your Kloud-12 camera:
- In the camera options menu, click on the green button that says "Share Camera."
- Next, click "New Share" in the top right corner.
- Use the drop-down list to select the email address of the user you want to give access to your classroom camera. REMINDER: The drop-down list shows all other active Kloud-12 accounts in your building. Only users on this list will be allowed to join your classroom, as determined by your administration.
- Toggle the options based on what you want the user to be able to do while accessing your camera:
-
- Live View: This lets users see a live view of your classroom - this permission is necessary for additional users and should be set to "on".
- Manage View: Allows users to control the camera's pan, tilt, and zoom functions - it is recommended to turn this "on" for long-term users in your classroom.
- Use Kloud-12 LIVE: This would allow another user to launch Kloud-12 LIVE from your camera. REMINDER: Kloud-12 LIVE may or may not be enabled in your district. For more on this feature, see this article.
- Create Recordings: Gives users the ability to create one-time or recurring recordings - it is recommended to turn this "on" for long-term users in your classroom.
- Expiration: for users who are consistently present in your classrooms, it is recommended to set the expiration date to coincide with the last day of school.
